Mr. Lindenmuth's Contemporary Issues class had the opportunity to hear two guest speakers from the Navy on Tuesday January 7th.  Mr. Jason Lee and Mr. Antonio Kandrot-Oshman (former alumni of Southern and also former student in Contemporary Issues) spoke about their experience in the military and how it impacted their lives.  They also spoke about some global issues that were discussed in class previously.  Students observed and asked questions.  It was a great interaction that allowed students to talk to active military personnel who have traveled around the world.

Beginning on January 8, 2025, Tiger Café will open at Southern Columbia MS/HS. This option will serve to enhance our daily offerings and increase the choice that students have regarding their meal. This option will evolve and go through some changes to make it more efficient, but initially, we are excited by this new model. Initially, due to staffing and trial and error, we will have this open three days per week. Monday and Friday will be limited to our premade salads and the traditional menu items in our normal serving area. Tuesday through Thursday we will open the rest of the Tiger Café. Students will use the Tiger Cafe for two primary functions. First, all a la carte sales (chips, cookies, bottled waters, flavored waters, etc.) will be sold from there. This will reduce foot traffic in the kitchen serving area, but also provide a better space for students to purchase these items, if they choose to do so. All a la carte sales will be from this room Monday through Friday. Secondly, during our lunch service, this room will house our new Deli Line. Tuesdays through Thursdays, Students may choose to eat a meal of their making in this line. We will have a wide range of deli items for them to “Make their own” sandwich or wrap. A full list of our potential deli offerings will be posted on the Food Service Page of the school website. These students will also be able to pair a bowl of soup with their meal. The soup variety will change on a weekly basis and will be posted where appropriate. Soup will also be available for purchase for $1.75 as an a la carte item. The Deli Line will also house a selection of premade Chef Salads, should the student or staff member wish to have a salad. A Soup and Sandwich Meal or a Chef Salad Meal will fall under the current lunch pricing structure for students, which is $3.10. Free and Reduced Pricing applies to all reimbursable meals. Adult pricing remains the same. Our traditional menu will be served from our current serving lines. Tiger Café is designed to enhance our department and the school it serves, but will be subject to change based on availability, staffing, and overall popularity of the offerings. We may continue to add or remove items based on need. These changes will be communicated. As the service model evolves, our hope is to enhance the satisfaction and enjoyment that our customers receive from our meals and offerings. Questions can be directed to John Rosselli, Food Service Director: 570-356-3457 or jrosselli@scasd.us Happy Holidays from the Food Service Department!! Sincerely- John Rosselli

It doesn’t get any BUTTER than this! 🧈 Students in Miss Yoder’s "Farm to Table" class recently learned about milk production, benefits of milk, and the dairy industry. To finish off the unit before Christmas break, students got to make and sample their own butter! 🐄

Last Friday, Miss Yoder’s Ag Science class got into the holiday spirit by decorating the Christmas tree in the courtyard. They hung lights, strung garland, and hung ornaments they made in class. These ornaments, made from a simple mixture of water, flour, and salt, were shaped and decorated by the students. After making the ornaments, the students added a protective finish to ensure they lasted through the season. It was a great way to blend learning with holiday spirit!
