Congratulations to Eli Politza for winning the Read Across America cake competition! In Elementary Library, students were encouraged to make Dr. Seuss a birthday cake to celebrate his birthday. The cakes had to be made using recyclable materials or craft products - no real food was permitted in the contest. Eli did a phenomenal job paying strong attention to details of The Lorax, while also making his cake very colorful and fun. His cake may just have to become a new shelf sitter in our library. Our Librarian, Mrs. Kane-Gilger, took Eli's cake to Kim's Confectionary Creations in Catawissa where Kim Deska, the baker and cake decorator, brought his cake to life! She made a delicious confetti cake with vanilla buttercream icing, and even used Eli's handwriting in the design. Eli's cake is on the right, and Kim's cake is on the left. We are so grateful for her talent and creativity. Eli's class was so thrilled for him and they enjoyed eating the cake he designed. You can find Kim on Facebook under Kim's Confectionary Creations. WAY TO GO, ELI! Shoutout to the following winners who will receive a gift certificate to use at the book fair in May: 1st Place: Eli Politza, 2nd place: Rose Breskiewicz, 3rd place: Jackson Pfirman Kindergarten: Swayze Benshoff, Tatum Henninger, Vera Walker, Raelynn Rosario, and Kennedy Devine First Grade: Carianna Schell, Luke Traugh, Onolyn Crawford, Sadie Gotshall, Aria Mack Second Grade: Alden Campbell, Logan Rasmussen, Landon Hall, Londyn, Torres, Milania Torres, Olivia Mitchell, Ellymay Yost, Brody Harner, Charles Walker, Finnegan Hartranft Third Grade: Brady Boucher, Landon Traugh, Ella Hoagland, Tucker Hartranft, Calleigh Bixler Fourth Grade: Kylie Cuff, Makala Podgurski, Reese Thorpe, Henry Race, Olivia Condron, Kinsley Wiehe, Branden McDowell, Jared McDowell

Over the winter months, students in Ms. Rhodes' 2nd Grade class built an igloo in their classroom from milk jugs. They spent time in the igloo reading, doing school work, or resting with friends. Now that spring has arrived, their igloo has since melted.

Southern Columbia's Staff Spotlight for the last week of March is Mrs. Bulla. You would never find her without her smile! Mrs. Bulla was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Last week she lost her long fought battle with cancer, but she will never be forgotten. Her kindness will live on in everyone she touched. Now you are pain free and in your Heavenly home - we appreciate you - always!
