Read Across America Week is quickly approaching and the Elementary library will be hosting two challenges during that week to help promote and celebrate reading. Kindergarten is invited to make Dr. Seuss a (non-edible; non-food) birthday cake, and First through Fourth Graders are invited to make him a hot air balloon/balloon centerpiece display inspired by, "Oh the Places You'll Go."

5th Grade students recently took part in a "Stop the Bleed" training with some of our local paramedics.
Ninth Grade students in Mrs. Becker's Office Applications class were recently provided with a bag of Valentine's Day candy and asked to sort and log the candy in tables in an Access database. They then created queries of the data based on characteristics of the candy. Students were able to enjoy the treats at the end of the lesson.

The SCA Class of 2025 proudly presents the Fifth Annual "DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE." Girls residing in the Southern Columbia Area School District in Grades K-5 are cordially invited to a magical evening of dance. Bring your dad or a special someone!
When: Friday, February 16, 6:00-7:30 pm
Where: Southern Columbia High School, Old Gymnasium
Tickets are $20 per daddy/daughter couple. Each additional daughter is $5. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
The power has been restored to the school buildings and we plan on having school tomorrow, Thursday, 2-15 in the Southern Columbia Area School District.
Lunches will be:
Secondary Building- Hot ham and cheese on a pretzel bun, onion rings, and fruit.
Elementary Building - The menu will be the same as the secondary building with the weekly alternative option.
We look forward to seeing everyone back at school tomorrow.

Mrs. Gaul's class is learning about shadows in their classroom, so the group took advantage of the sunny day to get outside and examine their dark outlines on the parking lot pavement.
Mr. Traugh gave gold coins for the book vending machine to each teacher to distribute to deserving students. These three young men earned their coin by being responsible in Art class, working together as a group, communicating with each other, and cleaning up their workspace. Great job boys!
Mrs. Madden's class filled their classroom Kindness Tree by including another student in their puppet show! Way to go girls! Students were then able to put a big leaf on our elementary school's Kindness Tree sponsored by SCA C.A.R.E.S. Each leaf on the large tree represents a dollar towards a charity. This year's charity of choice was chosen by Mrs. Singley, with the funds going to St. Jude Children's Hospital at the end of the school year. Keep up the kindness G.C Hartman!
Kindergarten and 1st Grade Art students created this winter display with Mrs. Brown in Art class. Kindergartners cut shapes free-hand for their snowy houses and created patterns using color. First graders perfected their clay spheres and compared sizes while they explored the element of form. Students challenged themselves by cutting felt for the scarf, and they designed their snowman’s hat by mixing colors. Igloos were created using recycled clay buckets by a group of First Grade boys during their recess time!
The following students were chosen by the Sixth Grade staff at Southern Columbia Middle School as January's SoCo Stars of the Month. These students were chosen because they have displayed self-control, tolerance, academic integrity, and resilience within the school setting. Congratulations to each student and their families!
