On Tuesday, First Grade students read the book "Balloons Over Broadway," created their own balloons, and had a parade around the Elementary school. 🎈
Meanwhile, Kindergarteners visited 4th Grade classrooms. While together, the younger students partnered with their older peers to read the "Thanksgiving Story Bracelet" and construct their own bracelets while following the directions in the story. 🦃

Regular physical activity helps prevent sickness and disease. From the common cold to heart disease, choosing PE can help you live a healthier life! This month, High School physical education classes participated in Speedaway, a basketball, football, and soccer combination game. Students also had a choice week, and they picked Table Tennis and Pickleball. Lastly, 11th Grade Health classes were engaged in mental health stations to culminate the Mental and Emotional Health Unit.

In order to begin spreading Holiday Cheer, the Southern Columbia HS Student Council will be holding the "12 Days of Holidays" beginning on Thursday, December 5. All students and staff are encouraged to participate in these dress up days. Stay tuned for more holiday activities throughout the "12 Days of Holidays"! 🎅🏻❄️🎄

Tomorrow's Lunch at SCA MS/HS will not include Popcorn Shrimp, due to inventory issues. We will serve a larger portion of Macaroni and Cheese as a Protein Substitute.

Congratulations to the newly inducted members of the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society. The National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society recognize students who excel in the area of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

Chad Lauer, an SCA alum who is president of Lauer Media Company, spoke with Mrs. Becker's business students and Mrs. Long's FBLA students this morning. Mr. Lauer spoke about adversity and motivation, search engine optimization for clients, and their assistance to clients to help them increase their sales. Students were engaged and answered questions posed to them by Mr. Lauer. Southern Columbia is grateful for alumni and community business leaders who share their experiences SCA with students.

Eighth grade students in Mr. Kelchner's science classes recently built rubber band powered rovers and competed to see whose could travel the greatest distance across a simulated rocky Mars surface. Students were challenged to use the engineering process to identify weaknesses in the original prototype design and then modify it to improve its performance. All modifications to the wheels, drive system, and body had to keep their rovers within the design constraints that limited the size to no more than 12 inches in any direction and no more than 75 grams of total weight. This year, there were several records broken, including a new maximum travel distance of 87.5 inches on a single wind-up.

High School Student Council is currently holding their Blanket Drive to benefit the patients of the Janet Weis Children's Hospital and AGAPE. This year, by popular demand, we are expanding our efforts to include Squishmallows as well. Blankets and Squishmallows, whether store bought or handmade, need to be brand new. To best protect the young patients, you are asked to tie your donation in a plastic bag and keep it away from dust and pets. Donations can be dropped off in Miss Stine's classroom or in the High School Office through Thursday, December 12th.
This is the 9th year of our drive, and as a school community we have donated over 1,500 blankets. Our Student Council is hopeful you can support our cause and help brighten the holidays for those less fortunate! ❄️🎅🏻🎁

On November 6 and 7, Southern Columbia students participated in the Columbia-Montour County Choir held at Benton High School. Students had to audition against their peers to earn the opportunity to perform on Thursday evening to a sold-out crowd. Congrats to all involved! You make SCA proud! 🐯🎶

To celebrate American Enterprise Day, FBLA students taught first graders about quarters and dimes through discussion questions. The students then "purchased" little prizes using the provided money. 🪙

In a thrilling showdown under the lights at Tiger Stadium last evening, the End Zone Divas triumphed over the Declaration of Interceptions by a score of 12-7 in the annual Powderpuff Football game. Minna Shingara scored the decisive touchdown with under a minute left to issue the Divas' proclamation of scoreboard separation. Kailee Helwig also dazzled for the Divas, catching a touchdown pass and securing an interception in the win. 🏈

Thanksgiving Spirit Week will begin on Monday for all three schools. Showcase your Thanksgiving enthusiasm by participating during each of the seven days leading up to Thanksgiving break! 🦃🍂
