Elementary students and teachers celebrated the 100th of school today. Gumballs were colored, necklaces were made, and hats were constructed (just to name a few activities) to celebrate this momentous day on the school calendar. Congratulations to our students and teachers for working hard and reaching Day 100.
Kindergarten students were given a fun new toy called a yo-yo ball today. They were invented by Kazumasa Hirouchi, a Japanese man, that created them out of old kimono fabric and rubber bands. His hope is to distribute them to children all over the world! So far, they have been given to children in Africa, Mexico, USA, Japan, Germany, and France. Thank you Mr. Hirouchi and all of his friends who helped make the yo-yo balls for us !!! They are so fun!
Mrs. Gaul's class was visited today by Schmagel, the cat who acted in the movie "A Man Called Otto." The class was very excited to be able to interact with, ask questions and watch Schmagel do some of the tricks he performed in the movie.
First grade students participated in the February Kindness Challenge. They wrote positive messages on the playground with chalk to help spread kindness in the elementary school!

Students in Mrs. Higgins' class worked on their math skills today while making brownies. They learned to measure ingredients, double a recipe, and divide mixtures. They enjoyed this delicious snack after they were done baking!
Macy Troup from Mr. Hauer's Kindergarten class and Michael Jones from Mrs. Rodgriguez's Kindergarten class were the first recipients of Ms. Holtzman's "Top Musicians of the Week" honor. These students showed Ms. Holtzman that they could use their listening ears, they followed all class rules, and actively participated in class!
Middle school science teacher Mr. Roth gave a presentation to Ms. Merook's 2nd grade class about owls, as the students recently did an art project on snowy owls.
3rd and 4th grade students who achieved 25 AR points or more were recently able to visit "Cafe Read A Latte." They were treated to a made-to-order hot chocolate and a donut while enjoying the atmosphere of our own cafe. Shout out to Mr. Roughton for creating the donut board for us!

High school Spanish students visited Kindergarten to teach them words about weather and clothing.
Second Grade students in Ms. Merook's class were recently deep in thought regarding their hopes and dreams inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King. They wrote about a dream that would make this world a better place.

Miss Sharrow’s class got in the holiday spirit with a Polar Express Day! They were able to ride the Polar Express, do some fun holiday activities, watch the movie, and of course, enjoy some hot chocolate!

High school students from FBLA and School Store helped deliver letters from Santa to First Grade students.
Holiday cheer is running high at G.C. Hartman Elementary School this week. From "Clash of the Carols" to "Holiday Chaos," students and adults alike have enjoyed dressing up to celebrate the holidays. The week ends with "Silent Night" (wear your comfiest pajamas) on Thursday and "Holiday Cheer" on Friday (dress in Christmas from head to toe).
Elementary students collected over 1,000 food items during their Grinch for Good Food Drive. All donations will be divided between Elysburg and Catawissa Food Banks. Thank you to elementary students and families for your generous donations!
