6th grade students in Mrs. Bloom's and Mr. Visnosky's Social Studies classes recently took on the role of ancient Phoenician trading captains in a fun historical simulation activity.



6th Grade students who earned 30 or more AR points in the 2nd marking period celebrated their success with a pizza party donated by SMART!

Southern Columbia Area School District will be operating on a 2- hr delay this morning. Again, Southern Columbia will be operating on a two hour delay this morning , Tuesday, February 28
Students in grades 7-12 listened to a presentation focused on the value of people and the worth of influence given by Mr. Gross, a school counselor from the Parkland Area School District.

Middle school students are exploring different uses for spreadsheets in Computer Class by creating Pixel Art in order to learn how to navigate and manipulate cells in a spreadsheet.


Over the next 12 weeks, High School Journalism students will be completing a "Teachers of Tomorrow" project for our website and social media platforms. Their work will feature each of the student teachers working within our district during the Spring Semester. Our first student teachers, Joshua Bernocco and Sean McCarthy, are both teaching with Mrs. Becker (HS) and Mr. T. Williams (MS).

Southern Columbia's Staff Spotlight for the last week in February is Mr. Medon. He is quick to fix any "bugs" we have during our school day. Mr. Medon is changing our world through technology and helping us create a future we haven't realized yet - we appreciate you!

Third Grade students visited the High School on Friday to participate in Presidents' Day activities including an art activity, critical thinking, and writing. The Third Graders were assisted by Miss Hoffman's 9th graders, and the proceedings ended with students singing a song about presidents.

Fifth Graders practiced "Stop the Bleed" techniques with emergency personnel from the Elysburg Fire Department on Wednesday. Carter Spotts shared a moment with his dad, DJ, during the training.


Students in Mr. Williams' 8th Grade STEM Class are working on creating art using Python coding language. Students are using the coding language to create shapes with color in order to design a digital picture of their choice.




On Friday, the SCA Class of 2025 hosted the 4th annual Daddy/Daughter Dance in the G.C. Hartman Elementary Gymnasium. Girls in grades K-5 attended the event with their fathers, or other special someone, and enjoyed music, dancing, and refreshments with their friends.










The SCA Bocce Ball Team took 2nd place in our Division today! Congratulations to our Tiger players and their coach Miss Johnson on a great season! Tigers Rule!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! The Elementary Library is celebrating "Read Across America Week" by making Dr. Seuss a birthday cake. Cakes may not contain any food items and must be made with the intention of a book, author, reading series, or Dr. Seuss theme. Be creative, just like Dr. Seuss! Cakes are being collected this week and the last day to submit a cake is Friday, February 24. Winners will receive a $10.00 voucher to use at the spring book fair.
