Today, all students in sixth grade took part in a free six-hour Hunter/Trapper/Conservation Education course through the Pennsylvania Game Commission as part of their science class. The course was taught by certified Hunter/Trapper educators Steve Roth, Mike Williams, Jerid Lindenmuth (all Southern Columbia teachers), Clay Fahringer (Retired Southern Columbia SPO), and Game Wardens Jake Klinger and Justin Faus.
Content in the course will include:
§ The importance of conservation of resources
§ Outdoorsmanship
§ Environmental stewardship
§ The implementation of The North American Wildlife Management Model
§ The importance of firearm safety
§ Legalities of hunting, including laws vs. regulations
§ Reporting Game Law violators
§ Pittman-Robertson Federal Aid in the Wildlife Restoration Act
§ Public land acquisition and recreational use
§ And much more
