Soar into Space Initiative Promotes Reading and Literacy

Southern Columbia is engaged in a yearlong initiative to Soar into Space in hopes of being chosen as a downlink site for a live feed emanating from the International Space Station. If chosen, students and staff will be afforeded the unique opportunity to speak with the astronauts currently on the space station sometime in spring 2020. To help the District's application stand out among the rest, Literacy Specialist Lindy Novak and Library Manager Amanda Noblit, have created a set activities and events.

Schools and Offices Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday

Schools and offices will be closed today through Friday, November 29th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Classes will resume Monday, December 2nd.

Monster Project Delights and Inspires

The annual Monster Project once again proved to be a fun, collaborative learning experience, inspiring creativity for all involved! The interdisciplinary project tasks Elementary students with creating a drawing of an imagined monster and giving the monster an original name.

Gridiron District Championship Tonight!

Good luck to the Tiger Football Team who will compete for the District IV 2A Championship this evening against Mt. Carmel Area High School. The game will be played at Tiger Stadium with kickoff at 7:00 PM.

Tigers in Football Playoff Action

Good luck to the Tiger Football Team in their PIAA District 4 Class 2A semifinal playoff game against North Penn-Mansfield. Kickoff is 7:00 PM at Tiger Stadium.

 

Fresh Food of the Month

Each month the Wellness Committee arranges for students to taste-test farm fresh and/or healthy prepared foods as part of its Fresh Food of the Month campaign. This month's featured food item was sweet potatoes grown locally on Briar Creek Farms.

Rural Education Grant Celebrated

In early 2019, America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education, sponsored by the Bayer Fund, partnered with local farmers to nominate rural schools and awarded more than $2.3 million in grants to enhance their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs.
