Marketing Students Engage in Unique Field Trip

Recently, Business Education Teacher Kristie Anderson and seventeen Marketing and FBLA students were invited to Knoebels Amusement Park to take part in a  commercial shoot for the Flying Turns wooden bobsled roller coaster.  In addition to being featured in the commercial, the students were able to learn more about marketing and video production.  The commercial will be shown on television, the internet and during "pre-roll ads" shown before launching a YouTube video.  "The students had a great time and le

Free Summer Entrepreneurial Camp Offered by Bloom U

Students entering grades 9 through 12 with an interest in business, marketing and/or entrepreneurship have an opportunity to enroll in a free summer camp taught by Bloomsburg University faculty. The EYE (Entrepreneurial Youth Experience) camp will run June 16, 17 and 18.

G.C. Hartman Students Conducting a Food Drive

G.C. Hartman Elementary students are conducting a food drive to benefit the Food For Friends Food Bank located in Catawissa.  The food bank serves all residents of the Southern Columbia Area School District. The Food Bank has requested specific items including boxed pasta (spaghetti), macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, and canned tuna (they received other canned food items through previous drives).

Enrollment for Summer Expedition Course Now Open

Southern Columbia Area High School students will have the opportunity to earn Physical Education credit this summer by engaging in a variety of unique and exciting activities including biking, kayaking, rock climbing and team building.

Relay for Life Activities Announced

On Friday, May 30th Southern Columbia's elementary and middle school students will kick off the 2014 Southern Columbia Relay for Life celebration by participating in the annual Relay for Life Recess (Grade K-4) and Relay for Life Field Day (Grades 5-8).  During the Relay for Life Recess, SCA's elementary students will participate in activities designed and organized by the middle school students. The middle school students will then have the opportunity to participate in these same activities from noon to dismissal during Field Day.

High School Receives National Recognition

Congratulations to Principal Jim Becker and his High School staff for achieving national ranking in U.S. News and World Report's Best High School's report. Nationwide, 19,411 schools were eligible to be included in the 2014 Best High schools rankings.

Empty Bowls Celebration Rescheduled for June 1st

The Empty Bowls celebration originally scheduled for April 26th has been moved to Sunday, June 1st in order to avoid conflicts with several other school and community activities also scheduled that day. The event will now become an ice cream social. The Empy Bowls is a joint community service project and fundraiser of the Senior Class and the Art Club. The project is designed to raise awareness of the fact that hunger is a problem in our region.
