Forensics Team Shines Again!

Southern Columbia Area High School's Forensics Team turned in another fine showing, this time excelling at the 2015 PHSSL District 9 Tournament. At the District tournament, the Duo Interpretation team of Lena Becker and Aiyona Hayman finished second in that category, as did Adam Unger in Humorous Interpretation.

Students Excel in Governor's STEM Competition

A Southern Columbia Area High School STEM team consisting of  Noah Carl, Tyler Keiser, Thomas Marinelli, Elyse Noll, and Conner Swank placed second in the Governor’s Jobs1st STEM Competition.

Student-Athletes Advance to State Competition

Southern Columbia Area will be represented by five student-athletes at upcoming PIAA swimming and wrestling championships after each turned in outstanding performances in contests concluded this weekend. Jacob Ryan, a member of Bloomsburg Area High School's swimming team, captured the District 4 Championship in the 100-yard backstroke with a career-best time of 56.14 seconds. Jacob was also a member of Bloomsburg Area's championship 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay teams.

Revised Calendar is Posted

A revised 2014-2015 School Calendar is now posted with February 16th, April 1st, April 2nd, June 5th, and June 8th being used as "snow make-up" days. Looking ahead, Friday, April 3rd, and Monday, April 6th, will remain as Spring Recess school holidays. SCA Wrestlers Advance to Northeast Regionals

Five Southern Columbia Area High School wrestlers will compete in the 2015 PIAA AA Northeast Regional wrestling tournament to be held at Williamsport Area High School this Friday and Saturday. Leading the way for Southern Columbia Area are Kent Lane (145 pounds) and Billy Barnes (152 pounds) who were crowned champions at last weekend's District 4 AA Tournament.

Tickets for this Year's Musical Now on Sale!

This year's Encore production will be Annie, a Broadway musical based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie. Among the popular musical selections to be performed are Tomorrow and It's the Hard Knock Life. Southern Columbia's production will be performed March 20th and March 21st at 7:00 PM, and March 22nd at 2:00 PM, in the High School Auditorium.

HS and Elementary Students Engage in Unique, Interdisciplinary Lesson

Recently, elementary teacher Mrs. Sue Stone, and secondary teachers Mrs. Casie Baker and Mrs. Lori Shively, created a "monster of a lesson" that afforded their students a meaningful learning experience. Each of the Third grade students in Mrs. Stone’s class were tasked with creating a drawing of an imagined monster and giving their monster an original name.

SCA Welcomes Officer Fahringer

Officer Clay Fahringer has begun service as the District's first School Police Officer after his nomination was reviewed and approved by the Columbia County Court of Common Pleas. The School Police Officer position, created through a successful Safe Schools Grant application, will add another tier of security designed to keep Southern Columbia Area students and staff safe.
