FBLA Wins Big at State Competition: 7 Students Advance to Nationals

Southern Columbia Area High School made an exceptional showing at the 2014 Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference held in Hershey last week with seventeen students placing in the top ten in the state! Seven of these students have also qualified for national competition! "We are full of SoCo pride!" stated FBLA Advisor Lori Shively.  This year's performance is one of the strongest on record for Southern's FLBA chapter.

The True Facts About College Recruiting

On Monday, April 21st, the Southern Columbia Area Athletic Department will present a 60-minute workshop entitled "The Realities of College Recruiting." It will be presented by Jack Renkens, a former college coach and recruiting expert. The program is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Southern Columbia Area High School Auditorium beginning at 7:00 PM.

Students to Compete in State Speech Tournament

Southern Columbia Area High School's Forensics Team will be represented by Thomas Marinelli (11th grade), Sami Abdul (10th grade) and Adam Unger (10th grade) at the Pennsylvania High School Speech League State Championship Tournament to be held at Susquehanna University in Selingsgrove this Friday and Saturday. The students will be competing in the following events:

Computer Fair Contestants Garner Awards

Congratulations are extended to sophomores Aiyona Hayman, Francesca Schu, and Amara Nazario for their first place finish in the Digital Movie category at the Regional Computer Fair hosted by the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit. They will now move on to the state competition at Dickenson College. According to Bill Herald, CSIU’s Technical Support and SQA manager, computer fairs take place in each intermediate unit in the state.

Hunter Safety Course

The PA Game Commission will offer a Hunter Safety Course on May 6 and May 8 from 3:15 pm to 6:30 pm in the large group area of G.C. Hartman Elementary.   Participants must turn 11 years old by the last day of the course and attend both sessions.  Registration must be completed online at www.pgc.state.pa.us.  

Leaders Prepare for Wednesday's Town Hall Meeting

On Monday, G.C. Hartman Elementary was the setting for a Media Day Rountable Discussion of key topics that will be presented at the Drug Awareness Town Hall Meeting to be held on Wednesday, March 26th. The Media Day discussion was moderated by State Representative Kurt Masser and was attended by representatives from law enforcement, the judicial system, and various county-level offices.

Annual Volleyball Tournament a Success!

Recently, the High School Physical Education Department held its much-anticipated Second Annual Volleyball Tournament. Nine teams, with rosters filled by students in grades nine through twelve, participated in the fun event.
