MS Student Council Project Makes a Positive Difference!

One of the unique service projects undertaken by the Middle School Student Council was making Christmas a bit brighter for orphaned children living in Mustard Seed Communities in Jamaica.

District 4 Champs!

Congratulations are extended to the Tiger Wrestling Team on capturing their first-ever District 4 Championship! The Tigers defeated Line Mountain 37-28 in the duals tournament championship match to capture the District 4 title! As District champs, the Tigers have earned a spot in next week’s PIAA Team Wrestling Championships!  Great job wrestlers and coaches! Good luck at States!

New Online Policy Manual System Launched

The District is pleased to announce that its new policy management system, BoardDocs, is now live and available for public use. The new system contains all active School District policies as well as polices under consideration.

MS Students Tackle Social Isolation

On February 10th, Southern Columbia Area's Middle School students in grades 5 to 7 will be participating in No One Eats Alone, a lunchtime school event that seeks to "reverse the trends of social isolation" by asking students to engage in a simple act of kindness at lunch – making sure that no one is eating alone and students are making an effort to eat with new classmates and peers.

New Curriculum Director Welcomed! Retiring Director Thanked!

Beginning Monday, January 23rd, the District will transition to a new Curriculum Director when long-time Southern Columbia Area educator Mrs. Brenda Monick passes the torch to Mrs. Stephanie Ziegmont, who had  previously served as Pottsville Area School District's  Director of Curriculum and Instruction. In welcoming Mrs. Ziegmont, we extend many thanks to Mrs. Monick, who since 1990, has provided Southern Columbia Area dedicated service as a teacher, K-6 Technology Coordinator, and Director of Curriculum.

Next Middle School Celebration Announced

The Middle School's SWPBIS leaders have announced that the school's next celebration will feature a Bottle Flip Tournament on Friday, February 3rd. The cost per participant is $5.00 with each grade limited to 25 participants each. Students must earn the celebration by meeting all grade level criteria by January 19, 2017. Anyone who practices during school is automatically not eligible to participate. The last day to sign up is January 20th. 

Competitive Cheer Team Wins District Gold!

The Southern Columbia Competitive Cheerleading Team won the District IV Championship held at Shamokin Area High School on Saturday, placing first in the Small Varsity class with a score of 214, the highest overall score of the ten teams competing.

SCA's Students, Educators and Parents Encouraged to Participate in National Study

Through January 27th, more than 400,000 K-12 students, educators and parents worldwide will complete the Speak Up 2016 online survey and share their ideas about education and technology with our national leaders.

FBLA has Historic Day at Regional Competition!

Southern Columbia's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter recorded two historic "firsts" at this year's Regional Leadership Conference and also saw sixteen of its members place in various business and business-related competitions held as part of the day-long conference.
