Southern Columbia's Tiger Football program has received much national attention in recent months with accolades given to the team itself, and several individual players. On June 30th High School Football America (HSFA) named the Tigers as the top small team in its preseason small school top 25 poll. In July, ESPN officially announced the long-anticipated news that the Tigers will be one of its featured teams in the 2019 Geico ESPN High School Football Kickoff. The Tigers will open their season on August 25th against Hammond Upper School of Columbia, South Carolina. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 beginning at 2:00 PM. ESPN promotions for the event highlight the Tigers' Julian Fleming as one of the Chosen 25 who will be playing in the Kickoff games. Julian, along with fellow seniors Cal Haladay and Gaige Garcia, were the focus of many local and national media reports this spring and summer as they accepted offers from Division I schools to play college football upon graduation. Julian has committed to Ohio State, Cal to Michigan State, and Gaige to Michigan. In addition to football, Gaige will also wrestle for the Wolverines. Congratulations to Coach Roth and all players and coaches for the individual and team recognition you have earned. Wishing you all the best in the upcoming season!
