G.C. Hartman Elementary was among the Distinguished schools honored during a special ceremony at the 2018 Pennsylvania Title I Improving School Performance Conference in Pittsburgh, hosted by PDE's Division of Federal Programs. The theme of the 2018 conference,  Leading & Learning, directly reflects the purpose of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 and the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s goal in personalizing each child’s education through effective practice and strong leadership. According to PDE, the 2017 Distinguished Schools were honored for their achievements and were invited share their successes throughout the conference. 
 
Representing Southern Columbia and G.C. Hartman at the Leading & Learning Conference were Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Stephanie Ziegmont and G.C. Hartman Principal John Fetterman. They are joined by PDE's Brian Campbell, Director of the Bureau of Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction and Susan McCrone, Chief of the Division of Federal Programs.
